Rain is a Blessing

Brainstorm what rain does for us

  • helps plants to live
  • helps animals to live
  • used in factories and industries
  • i can drink water
  • it grows flowers
  • rain feeds rivers and oceans.
  • rain makes dead valley alive
  • rain cools us down
  • rain goes into the earth

There are so much blessings that Allah gives to us in the form of rain.

Az Zumar 39: 21

See you not, that Allâh sends down water (rain) from the sky, and causes it to penetrate the earth, (and then makes it to spring up) as water-springs and afterward thereby produces crops of different colours, and afterward they wither and you see them turn yellow, then He makes them dry and broken pieces. Verily, in this, is a Reminder for men of understanding.

Have they not seen how We drive water to the dry land that has no any vegetation, and therewith bring forth crops providing food for their cattle and themselves? Will they not then see?

Abasa 80: 24-27

Then let man look at his food, And We split the earth in clefts, And We cause therein the grain to grow,

ALHAMDULILLAH

Water Cycle : Water goes into the earth

When the rain falls it may
1. become puddle
2. Goes into the river
3. Used by us
4. Goes back into the ocean
5. Absorbed by the earth

Allah makes the water absorbed by the earth to stop at certain level.

Al Mulk 67: 30
Say (O Muhammad SAW): “Tell me! If (all) your water were to sink away, who then can supply you with flowing (spring) water?”

Al Mu’minoon 23: 18
And We sent down from the sky water (rain) in (due) measure, and We gave it lodging in the earth, and verily, We are Able to take it away.

We talked about water table. This is an easy to read article explaining about water table. HERE.

When the pressure contained in the space of water table is high, the water comes out of the earth as spring, fountain and river. Subhanallah!

.We looked at diagrams. And pointed out that Allah created the impermeable rock so water does not get lost into the earth but rather very accessible to us. We talked about how people can access the water by making well.

We also talked that human are using water table alot especially in countries with limited water resources.

Let us take heed of Allah’s warning that if Allah wants, He can take the water table away in any way He sees fits.

Water Cycle : Precipitation

More and more condensation process will occur and more water droplets will be collected.

And the cloud will get heavier.

And by the will of Allah, it rains or snows.

Al Aaraf 7: 57
And it is He Who sends the winds as heralds of glad tidings, going before His Mercy (rain). Till when they have carried a heavy-laden cloud, We drive it to a land that is dead, then We cause water (rain) to descend thereon. Then We produce every kind of fruit therewith. Similarly, We shall raise up the dead, so that you may remember or take heed.

Do you notice that rain come down in drops and does not fall like waterfall would? If rain comes down like waterfall, it will damage lots o things.

Ar Rum 30:48
Allâh is He Who sends the winds, so they raise clouds, and spread them along the sky as He wills, and then break them into fragments, until you see rain drops come forth from their midst! Then when He has made them fall on whom of His slaves as He wills, lo! they rejoice!

Praises to Allah for all His blessings.

Water Cycle : Condensation

The water vapour that rises due to evaporation reach a cool place.

This condenses into water droplets. And water droplets turn into cloud.

Points to watch out : Do you notice that as you go further up like climbing the mountain, it gets colder. Whereas you are actually getting nearer to the sun.

The wind then blows the clouds to where Allah wills.

Are we counting our blessings yet?

Water Cycle : Evaporation

We discussed about evaporation.

1. the sun heats up the ocean

2. Ocean water evaporates and rises into the air.

Also  I pointed out to them who allow all these to happen? ALLAH.

Allah also made that the salt water when it is evaporated would leave the salt behind. Subhanallah.

Al Waqiah 56: 68-70

Then tell Me about the water that you drink. Is it you who cause it from the rainclouds to come down, or are We the Causer of it to come down? If We willed, We verily could make it salt (and undrinkable), why then do you not give thanks (to Allâh)?

Subhanallah! Have we thought about  that? That Allah  made the salt leave behind so that He gives us sweet tasting rain and thus

1. we can drink it

2. the animals can drink

3. Plants can use it to grow

So many reasons for us to be thankful to Allah!

__________________________________________________________
We did an experiment to separate salt from water by evaporation. S was the one assigned to write the “lab report”

Separating salt mixed in water
Objective : To separate salt diluted in water.

Things you need
2 bowls
salt
measurement jug
2 x 15oml clear water
spoon

What to do
1. Pour salt into one of the bowls
2. Pour 150ml of water into each bowl.
3. Stir the salt well
4. Put the two bowls at the same place where it is well exposed. It is best if they are placed under the sun.

The bowl of salt has no water after being left. Now only salt is left in the bowl.

The second bowl has no water left. Evaporation process has occured.

Conclusion
When salt water is evaporated, the salt is left behind.

All by the will of Allah.

You may be interested with desalination that we covered since it is related to separating salt from the salt water. Read it HERE.

Water Cycle

It was a two weeks school holiday which are done now. :(.

For this school break, we covered the topic of water cycle.

We talked about the process.

Ocean water (and any water) evaporated by the sun – turn to vapour – will rise up to the air – until reach a cool level – condense – turn into water droplet and form a cloud – the wind blows the cloud – meanwhile evaporation contine to happen and more water vapour are formed – clouds get bigger – when it becomes heavy – precipitation. it will pour down as rain – some goes to river, some fall on us watering the plants and such, some go back to the ocean, some goes into the earth.

In general this is our exaggerated water cycle model.

There’s the cool sun on the left. Clouds getting bigger. Rain falling over land giving life to the world by the will of Allah.

Cloud seeding

Still on the subject of rain, to day we explore some methods that the world are using to induce ore water to the world. This time is about how people induce rain. By planting seeds of water to the cloud and thus as Allah has put the rule that as the clouds get heavy, rain or snow will fall, by Allah’s leave.

Cloud seeding is a form of weather modification in the attempt to change the amount or type of precipitation that falls by dispersing substance into the air that serve as condensation.

The most common chemical are silver iodide, dry ice and salt.

Among the applications are

1.  In China they used cloud seeding to increase the amount of rain over arid regions.

2. China used cloud seeding just befor the 2008 Olympic games in order to clear the air pollution.

3. In Feb 2009 china blasted iodie sticks over Beijing and some places in the North of China to induce snowfall after four months drought. The snowfall in beijing lasted fort three days and led to the closure of 12 main  roads around Beijing.

4. The U.S also used cloud seeding to increase precipitation in areas experiencing drought. Also to reduce  the size of hailstorm and to reduce the amount of fog at the airport areaa.

5. Cloud sedding is occassionally used by major ski resorts to induce snowfall

6. In Australia, seeding over hydro electricity catchment area increases rainfall.

7. In Alberta cloud seeding using pumped silver iodide into the atmosphere to reduce the threat of hail damage. This program was funded by farmer contribution and government grants.

8. Russian military pilots seeded clouds over belarus after the Chernobyl disaster to remove radioactive particles from clouds heading towards Moscow.

9. At July 2006 G8 Summit, President Putin commented that air force jets had been deployed to seed incoming clouds so they rain over Finland. Rain drenched the summit anyway.

10. In Southeast Asia, open burning haze that pollutes the regional environment. Cloud seeding has been used to improve air quality by encouraging rainfall.

11. In October 2009, the Mayor of Moscow promised a “winter without snow” for the city after revealing efforts by the Russina Air force to seed the clouds upwind from Moscow throughout winter.

Criticism

1. People are complaining that cloud seeding is stealing rain that could potentially fall on other land.

2. Or making rain fall at where it is not suppose to as some people prefer their place not wet or blanketed with snow.

3. The quantity of precipitation is unknown sometimes causing more damage

4. The chemical thrown in and spread as rain to the earth.
