Next word to watch

أعوذو

I seek protection.

Suratun Nas and Suratul Falaq are among the surahs that Allah sent as a protection from Shaytan if we frequently recite it. They are called Mu’awwithatayn which means the two protectors. If you notice both the surah begins with seeking protection.
_________________________________

Who do we seek protection from? For sure we only seek protection from Allah for seeking protection from other than that is SYIRIK.

رب الناس
ملك الناس
اله الناس

Rabb of mankind – the Nurturer and the Rectifier of their affairs
King of mankind – The owner and the Disposer of their affairs
God of mankind – The one that they worship

In this surah, Allah is teaching us to seek protection from Him. He is the Lord of mankind, their Nurturer, their Caretaker, and their Provider. He is also their King, their Owner, and the True God who possess all Attributes of Perfection.

The Whisperer

The waswasah has terrible effect on us. In fact, one of the methods to lead people astray is to shake people’s belief by making them doubtful. Shaytan may make you doubtful about your

• Doubts about one’s purity
o Am I clean enough to pray? Is my clothes dirty? Is this brown patch on my sleeve najis?
o Is this place clean enough to make solah at?

• Wudhu.
o Was my wudhu’ correct? Did I wipe my feet? Did I do it right? Did I get my sequences correct?
o Did I fart earlier? Do I have still my wudhu?

• Solah
o How many rakaahs am I on?
o Did I make the second sujud?

• Inspiring people that the worship (which is following the sunnah) is not good enough
o Thus encouraging people to do more (which is not in the sunnah)

• Making people’s suspicious of others

• Doubting about Allah
o Thus shaking the eemaan

As you can see, waswasah is a serious thing. Seek refuge in Allah from this. Allah taught us through His Prophet sallallahu alaihi wasalam, one way to seek protection is by reciting the muawwadithayn.

الخناس

Khannaas means the one who withdraws. This is the characteristics of shaytan, he would continuously whisper and will continuously steps back.

He whispers into people’s heart, and when a person remembers Allah, he withdraws – stop and retreats. His offense is Waswaas (whispering), and his defense is Khannaas (stepping back).

Ibn Abbas said : “The shaytan lies in wait in the heart of the son of Adam, and when he is distracted and forgetful, he whispers to him, but if he remembers Allah he withdraws.”

Narrated Abdur Rahman ibn Samurah who said, “The Messenger of Allah sallalalhu alaihi wasalam said, “I saw a man from my ummah whom the devils have seized, but his remembrance of Allah came and banished the devils away from him.”

Simple examples for you are the lessons that we learned when saying Bismillah before eating and entering the house. And not to forget what happen to the shaytan when Adzaan is recited. Subhanallah.

THE BOOK OF DRINKS (KITAB AL-ASHRIBA)
Muslim :: Book 23 : Hadith 5006
Jabir b. ‘Abdullah reported Allah’s Messenger (may peace be upon him) as saying: When a person enters his house and mentions the name of Allah at the time of entering it and while eating the food, Satan says (addressing himself: You have no place to spend the night and no evening meal; but when he enters without mentioning the name of Allah, the Satan says: You have found a place to spend the night, and when he does not mention the name of Allah while eating food, he (the Satan) says: You have found a place to spend the night and evening meal. This hadith has been narrated on the authority of Jabir b. Abdullah through the same chain of transmitters but with a slight variation of wording.

Superiority/ Virtues of Adhan
Book of Call to Prayer
Bukhari :: Book 1 :: Volume 11 :: Hadith 582
Narrated Abu Huraira:
Allah’s Apostle said, “When the Adhan is pronounced Satan takes to his heels and passes wind with noise during his flight in order not to hear the Adhan. When the Adhan is completed he comes back and again takes to his heels when the Iqama is pronounced and after its completion he returns again till he whispers into the heart of the person (to divert his attention from his prayer) and makes him remember things which he does not recall to his mind before the prayer and that causes him to forget how much he has prayed.”

Whispering could occur from both jinn and man.

What kind of whispers come from man?

• Friends
o It may come from our friends. And you know how easy it is to be peer-pressured. The need to conform. The need to be accepted. To look cool among our friends.
o Our friends may continuously invite us to do something sinful like for example smoking, taking drugs, going to haram places like disco and so forth. They may call you names and put you down for not joining.
o And that is why Prophet Muhamamd sallalhu alaihi wasalam told us to find righteous friends.
Narrated AbuHurayrah:
The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: A man follows the religion of his friend; so each one should consider whom he makes his friend.

• Society
o Society might pressure one to do something haram which is a norm to them.
o Remember the hadith of the ghuraba. Prophet Muhamamd sallallahu alaihisalam said, “Islam began as something strange, and it shall return to being something strange, so give glad tidings to the strangers”
o We ask Allah that He hold so our heart strong to this faith and protect us from the whispers of Shaytan and His allies.

Lessons

In this surah Allah tells us to seek refuge in Him against the shaytan. Allah describes among the characteristics of the shaytan and among the ways he gets to the children of Adam.

Among the characteristics of Shaytan are
– they are the whisperers (Al waswas)
– They whisper and withdraw without tire
– They retreat when Allah is remembered
– They whisper to misguide you and cause doubts

Remember! Shaytan has a mission. And His mission is to keep us astray. This is his promise to Allah.

We have discussed this HERE.

Seeking Protection from Allah alone

The best words with which a person can seek refuge with Allah are Suratul Falaq and Suratun Nas. The Messenger sallallahu alaihi wasalam commanded Abdullah ibn Hubayb to recite Suratul Ikhlas and the Al Mu’wadhatayn three times in the evening and in the morning, and he said to him: “Allah will protect you from everything thereby.”

The Messenger sallallahu alaihi wasalam said to Ibn Abbas, “The best words with which one can seek refuge with Allah are Al Mi’wadhatayn.”

Why does Shaytan not go away when you seek refuge with Allah

Seeking refuge is like a sword in the hand of a warrior. If your hand is strong then the sword is fatal. In a weak hand, even the best sword wouldn’t do anything much to the enemy.

To be the warrior against shaytan, one must be pious. One must fear Allah. One must have tawakkul on Allah. One’s heart must be filled in His remembrance. One must rush for good deeds and stay away from what is forbidden. Then only the sword will become fire which burns the Shaytaan. This is in contrast to the one who has weak faith.
